Did you know that animals can create their own optical illusions? Most people associate optical illusions with black and white pictures that look like they are moving or a portrait of two people at once. But animals did it first. Many use camouflage to blend into their environment, often to help them hide from predators or ambush prey. Think of the Arctic fox among snow or tiger stripes blending into complex backgrounds. But there are masters such as cuttlefish who can change the color and pattern of their skin within seconds. In fact, cuttlefish are more masterful at disguises than chameleons.
